Steph + Erol | St George’s Hall Wedding Venue
Having decided to go ahead with a stripped-back wedding amid Covid, Steph and Erol married at the iconic St George’s Hall in Liverpool in September 2020 with only Steph’s parents present.
Built in 1841, St George’s Hall, with its stunning architecture and surrounding gardens, is a dream wedding venue for couples and photographers alike.
With hair stylings from Carl Brown Hair, hair colour by Olivia James Hairdressing, and hair accessories from Pin Up Curl — Steph was a vision in vintage, and her multicoloured hair only added to the wedding photos.
After the intimate ceremony, we took advantage of the picturesque St John’s Gardens for photos and then stopped by The Liver Buildings for a truly spectacular backdrop.
This micro wedding was one I'll never forget (for many reasons!), and I was delighted that Steph and Erol booked me again to photograph their vow renewal ceremony a year later.
How did you meet?
I was collecting food from the restaurant to take to a hotel the night before a wedding I was a part of. Erol was the waiter. After that, I just kept going to the restaurant because — a) delicious food and b) hot waiter! I now call him hot husband instead!
Do you have a proposal story to share?
Not that interesting really, we just agreed one day that we wanted to get married!
What were you most excited about for your wedding day?
Because of covid lockdowns, it was just a relief to be able to do it finally! We do get to be one of the few couples to say we got married in 2020.
Why did you choose your wedding venue?
Due to Covid, we decided to get married at St George’s Hall registry office as that was where we needed to give notice. When we decided to have our vow renewal, it made sense to get married at Figo’s Mediterranean Kitchen because it was where we first met.
What’s the most vivid memory of your wedding day?
Both times seeing each other all suited and booted was lovely. The biggest part of the vow renewal was announcing that we were pregnant (hint — hide that you’re not drinking by having Appletiser in a champagne flute... works a treat.)
What was your first dance song, and why did you choose it?
Heaven Must Have Sent You by The Elgins. Great lyrics and a good bop!
If you could give couples one piece of advice when planning a wedding, what would it be?
Focus on what matters to you.
What was it like working with me?
So much fun! Jane was the photographer for another wedding I was a part of, and I knew there wasn’t anyone else I’d rather have. My mum has since passed away, and I cherish the photos Jane took.
